I'm Lo (short for Laura). Not sure where the nickname came from; it's just one of those as-long-as-I-can-remember things! I like
to write young adult, contemporary, historical and fantasy. Oh, and always
a little romance in there (of course!). I love to promote clean literature,
share thoughts on writing, and meet fellow readers and writers, so welcome!
Random Stuff About Me:
My bucket list includes being a published author, visiting Machu Picchu, and swimming in the Bellagio fountains (okay, not really...but picturing myself as an old lady finally knocking that last one off my list always makes me smile).
Every summer break of my growing-up life for the first three weeks of June, I was up at six a.m. thinning peaches (uphill in snow both ways and all that). Nasty, itchy business, that peach thinning. Despite this, I'd love to have a little land again someday to putter around on (with my what-I'd-always-called-GREEN thumb that's turning out to not be so green).
Some of my favorite movies include Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, The Count of Monte Cristo, Pride and Prejudice, 17 Again, Kate and Leopold, The Blind Side, Enchanted, Pirates of the Caribbean, Win a Date With Tad Hamilton and Sherlock Holmes.
I love River Street in Savannah, GA. Not exactly sure why. It’s a key setting in one of my YA contemporary romance novels as a result (or maybe that’s why I love it!). Either way, try a walk down River Street someday.
Play Kiss by Prince and I can’t, CAN’T help but dance as I’m cleaning the kitchen. (Shh…don't tell).
I love to sew, horseback ride, read, play tennis, and run! I’m one of those crazy people who runs for pleasure.
Favorite songs? Don't get me started. I almost always listen to music while I write. While writing REWIND TO YOU it was The Man Who Can't Be Moved, Breakeven and Nothing by The Script. With BETWEEN NOW & NEVER it was Daylight by Maroon5 and anything Tyler Ward. Taylor Swift. Dierks Bentley. With my current work in progress--a fantasy!--I'm listening to a lot of Enya, Better Place by Rachel Platten, Lighthouse by Secret Nation, Life and Death by Paul Cardall, and some movie scores by Hans Zimmer and James Horner.
I love--LOVE--my husband. He’s a total stud, and I’m the luckiest girl ever.
Another secret. Reading used to be a special brand of torture for me. Gasp! I know. I hated those 15 minutes every day I had to spend reading in elementary school. I thought I was a "bad" reader (haha). The first
novel that made me absolutely love reading was The Count of Monte Cristo. I
finished it, turned right back to the front page, and started over. I learned to love reading.
Once again in my life, I have
someone telling me, “Good prayer!” after I say amen. I love this. Being a mom
is the best thing ever.
The first
book I ever wrote was actually a YA urban fantasy, but it’s awful. I wisely chalked it up as a learning experience and threw it under the bed.
I love
yogurt. Obsessed.
I live with ponies. Ponies in my bed sheets, ponies in my cupboards... I even found a My Little Pony in the sleeve of my bath robe once. My daughter is saving her pennies for "a horsie and a pwetty wedding dress."
I was a high school teacher, and I still love any chance I get to teach a group of teens.
Thanks for stopping by.
Lo
I really enjoyed reading this. I have a different opinion of your first book, since I was lucky enough to read it, I really enjoyed it. I also think that your opinion of your age is funny. I think you are a "spring chicken" and you will always seem young to me! O.K. So my opinion may be biased since I am your mother! Love you and your family! :) Mom
ReplyDeleteMOM!!! You are the best! Thank you for believing in me and for calling me a "spring chicken." Made me smile big time. I love it! Once again, you are the best ;)
