Books My Kiddos Are Reading

Ah, story time. If you have kids, interact with kids around you, or were once a kid...yeah, basically, this post is for you. All of us! I love to read to my kids, and since I am currently working on a children's picture book, I thought I'd take a minute to share some of my daughters' favorite book. Please share any picture book and easy reader book suggestions you might have for us in the comments! Thanks.

My almost-four-year-old daughter is obsessed with horses, unicorns, princesses, art and anything with humor. She is currently loving:

We just finished Charlotte's Web together. SO fun.

My almost-two-year-old daughter is crazy about The Lion King, books that rhyme, dogs, horses and is learning to use the potty. As such, she is currently loving:

Summer is here and that means it's time for a trip the bookstore and the library to stock up on some summer reading. Books I think they will enjoy:

For the potty...

 For The Lion King craze...

Woohoo! A new Olivier Dunrea!
 Because this cover is irresistible...

For my four-year-old who lost her first tooth...

Since my little one loves these Baby Einstein books and loves animals...

For another good Frog and Toad laugh...

Because I love book about rain (strange, I know)...

More Lion King...

Because this simply looks like fun...

This too...

My oldest was eyeing this one awhile ago (those sparkles caught my eye as a kid, too!)...

It's been forever since I've read an Amelia Bedelia, but I remember laughing as a kid.

Any other kid-friendly books we should read? What's on your summer reading list?

More about these books can be found on goodreads.com and amazon.com

  1. Yay! A list of more books!

We love Bob Shea books, Mo Willems books, and Dr. Seuss at our house! We love FUNNY books at our house. I did a post on the 7 funniest picture books back in September. On the list:

    Big Plans by Bob Shea
Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late by Mo Willems
The Boss Baby by Marla Frazee
Click, Clack Moo: Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin
Why the Banana Split by Rick Walton
The Plot Chickens by Mary Jane Auch
Shark vs. Train by Chris Barton

Our book list appeals more to boys than girls since we have a boy :) But these are all fun books we love!

  3. Lo, you are writing a picture book.... how cool and maybe gives me hope that one day I can make real my idea.

As for book ideas...I could talk all day. My favourite place at work is the junior library, especially when I am hanging out choosing books for story time.

You can't beat The Very Hungry Caterpillar (although I am spoilt with a story sack to use with a big fat caterpillar in), anything by Julia Donaldson (especially for munchkins who like rhymes) or Oliver Jeffers. But I love nothing better than getting back to basics with fairy tales. Oh but then there is Shark in the Park and Oh No George and....and... Argghhhhh one comment is not enough space, I haven't even mentioned Paddington!

    Enjoy your summer reading ;-)

    1. You work in the library?! How fun. I'd love to hear about your picture book idea sometime; best of luck! Thank you for the suggestions. We'll have to check Shark in the Park, Oh No George, and Paddington out (haven't heard of those yet). And thanks for the comment!
